Homestead

To add the WebRing NavBar using Homestead SiteBuilder, follow the written tutorial provided below:

First, you need to get the NavBar code…

  1. Click the URLs tab if it isn’t already open after signing in to your WebRing account.
  2. Locate the URL (web page address) for the page on which you want to add the WebRing NavBar.
  3. Click “Get SSNB Code” found to the right of the URL.
  4. Copy (Ctrl + C) all the code found in the text block.

Next, you need to add the NavBar to your Homestead Page…

  1. Open your Homestead SiteBuilder.
  2. Click “View Add Images and Files Elements” button. (Note: You will not find this button if you are using Homestead's online SiteBuilderlite. To download the full SiteBuilder software, click on "Additional Features>>".)
  3. Click "Insert HTML" from the dropdown menu. A box will appear in the main editing area of your SiteBuilder screen.
  4. Drag and position the box to where you want it to appear on your page, then stretch it to the approximate size of the NavBar you are about to add. (Note: See the "Things to Consider" section below for sizing)
  5. Click on the box to open Insert HTML tool pane on the right of your SiteBuilder screen.
  6. Click on the "Enter or Paste HTML" button to open the "Html Snippet" window.
  7. Highlight and delete the text that shows in the box, paste (Ctrl + V) the WebRing SSNB code into the box, then click "OK."
  8. Click the "Publish" button in your SiteBuilder's top menu, and choose "Publish All."

That’s it! If you have successfully added the WebRing NavBar, you will see something similar to this:

You’re now ready to join some WebRing Communities. You will want to read the “Special Requirements” section below before deciding which Communities to join.

Things to Consider
You should keep the following things in mind when installing and positioning the "Insert HTML" block on your Homestead SiteBuilder page"

  • Position in an easy to find place. NavBars are what make WebRing unique as well as what connects you to the other sites within your WebRing Community. The easier it is for a visitor to find the NavBar, the greater their level of satisfaction. Remember, nobody likes having to hunt for the "next" item.
  • Stretch it wide and long. Most NavBars are currently designed to appear thin and long, but occasionally, Ring Managers design custom NavBars of varying sizes. We recommend visiting the hub page of the WebRing Community you plan to join. If you scroll down, you will see what the NavBar will look like once installed.
  • Expect changes. Depending on the Ring Manager, your NavBar may change shape over time. If you monitor your site, as any good webmaster should, you will notice any noticeable changes.
