Announcing the WebRing Logo Design Contest!

WebRing would like to adopt a new logo. Why? The current logo is closely associated with Yahoo!, and WebRing is of course no longer a member of the Yahoo! network. We would like to express this independence by adopting a new logo, and since WebRing is really a community of users we'd like to have the logo come from you, the community.

Over the next month or two, until we have decided on the new logo (or perhaps more than one!), we will hold a contest to determine the next official WebRing logo. If you think you can design a great logo, and are willing to let WebRing use it if selected, then you are the person we're looking for. If you aren't the designing type you can still participate by casting your vote for the winning logo design!

Contest Overview

Here's a brief timeline for the logo contest:
  • For the remainder of March 2002, you may submit a logo for consideration. Simply email the GIF or JPG image to us (see address below), along with your User ID, and we'll handle the rest.
  • We (the WebRing team and some others) will then pick as many qualifers as we feel is reasonable, the more the better.
  • We will have a series of "vote-offs" to narrow the field down to 5-10 of the most popular
  • This will be followed by a run-off and a final vote to select the winning logo.

Who can particiapte?

Any WebRing member can participate. You can participate by submitting a logo for consideration, or you can vote for your favorite each time we have a poll. If you wish to submit a logo the only stipulation is that the logo is given without any copyright, trademark, royalty, or other proprietary or contract rights. In other words, WebRing will be allowed to use the logo, free of charge, if your logo is selected. The user with the winning submission will be awarded a prize and given permanent recognition for the achievement on the site. Runner(s) up submission(s) will also be a awarded a prize (recognition, t-shirt, ... perhaps there is an individual or company out there that would like to gain recognition by sponsoring the event and providing an incentive that way!).

Logo Requirements

We will place very few restrictions on what the logo should look like, as we want to encourage creativity as much as possible. Here are a few guidelines, however, that may be useful:
  • Dimensions: Should be within 150x150 pixels. It does not have to be square, or any particular shape.
  • Animated: Sure, if it works.
  • Size: Small is generally good, but not essential.
  • Format: GIF or JPG is likely to yield the best results.

Interested?

We're excited. Let us see your logo as soon as possible!
