What Is WebRing?
WebRing is one of the best ways to find great web sites, and an even better way for small to medium web sites to increase their own traffic, share ideas with peers and participate in topical communities for FREE.
Web sites with similar content are grouped together in "Rings" with each site linked to another by a simple navigation bar. The navigation bar allows visitors to quickly and easily navigate between sites.
Rings form a concentration of sites, allowing visitors to easily find a wealth of information on their topic of interest. Unlike the major directory and search sites, which use impersonal software to organize their database, each ring is created and maintained by an individual web site owner called the ring manager. ring managers are very knowledgeable about the topic of their ring. WebRing, therefore, consists of tens of thousands of experts on an extremely diverse set of interests.
ring managers determine the content, look and feel of the ring, approve and manage member sites, and encourage other web sites to join. ring managers help to develop virtual communities based on the ring topic.

It's easy to get started with WebRing. If you have a website already all you need to do is:
- Sign up for a WebRing User ID. It's free and easy. We ask for a minimum of personal information which is only used to keep you informed about your WebRing activities (i.e., when you apply to join a ring you'll get email from the ring manager).
- Use the Directory or WebRing search form (found on the front page or in the directory) to find ring(s) that are suited to your website.
- Click the "Join This ring" link on any ring you find that matches your website's topic. Fill out the submission form, place navigation code on your website, and await approval from the ring manager.
- If no ring seems right for your website you might try creating your own ring. It isn't hard to get started and there are probably other websites like yours looking for the right ring!

- Rings are automatically listed in the directory and search system, free of charge.
- For members seeking even greater service WebRing provides several inexpensive promotional services:
- Featured sites - as a ring member you can work with your ring manager to have your site featured prominently in the list of sites on the ring's Hub page. The cost is nominal, usually just $1-$2 per month, and is set by the ring manager. If you are a ring manager this is a simple way to make a ring pay for its own promotions: The earnings are split with WebRing, and the ring manager's posrtion can be either kept or used for ring promotion(s). - Top directory listing - If you manage a ring you can pay a small (often just $1-$2) monthly fee to have your ring appear at the top of the category listing in which your ring appears, and give it additional weight in search results. Additionally, you can place your ring in more than one category. Read more about it here.
- Targeted advertising - WebRing offers special low rates to members, ring manager or ring Members, wishing to run banner ad campaigns focused to exactly the target you wish to reach. Focused advertising on a small scale is something WebRing specializes in. You can run a targeted campaign for as little as $5 a month. ring managers can also run their own campaigns on the rings they manage, keeping the proceeds for themselves. Read more about it here.
