I was photographing a badger when a woman who worked at the rescue zoo came up to me and said, "Badgers are very even tempered. They are always angry!" It takes a special temperament to be able to work with an animal that by nature tends to be vicious. Whether this is a characteristic of their temperament, or an expression of fear on the part of this shy animal, we leave to the sites to answer. There are two living hippopotamus species today: hippopotamus (Hippopotamus amphibius ) and pygmy hippopotamus (Choeropsis liberiensis ). All the other hippo genera and species are extinct. Whales and Porpoises are classified close to them in taxonomy. Hippos are a semi-aquatic animal. They spend most of their time in water. They even give birth under water. This is an animal of the rivers and lakes on the SubSaharan continent of Africa. Hippos visit land about dusk to eat. If challenged, they can run up to 30 miles per hour. They are territorial in water but not on the land.
